| Mark Windle loves motorcycles. And he especially loves long-distance motorcycle sport touring and overnight camping trips. And when he takes a trip, he likes to document it with photos, videos, and detailed notes about the experience. So his dream was to create a website where he could share his experiences - and where other riders could do the same. Through mutual collaboration, he hopes to build an online database of interactive ride maps and establish a community of like-minded enthusiasts.

To create his site, we started by working with Mike Reumer, the developer of the world’s greatest Google Maps Joomla plugin, to enhance the mapping plugin so that its KML rendering functions could also be executed within a Kunena forum post. Then we combined Mike’s mapping plugin with the Kunena forum component and documented a system that would allow any registered user to create a detailed ride map at maps.google.com (complete with embedded photos and video), save it as a KML file, and post it to the forum so that it can be viewed (with all functions intact) from within the forum post. Then we installed an interactive photo gallery where registered users can create their own albums and upload their own photos – and where other users can rate and comment on photos. And we installed an event calendar with which Mark can track a variety of motorcycle-related events, including trade shows and the schedules of several different competitive race series. And we integrated all of these functions with a sophisticated user-management component that allows registered users to create unique personal profiles. And of course, the new site is very search-engine friendly, as it includes a complete set of title and meta tags, search-engine-friendly URLs, and dynamic site mapping. Please pay a visit to Zencycle.com . And while you’re there, create your own user account and experience the capabilities of the online community for yourself. (It’s pretty cool!) |
