A ‘Joomla!’ site fit the bill perfectly by providing a content management solution that is easily administered (even by CMDI volunteers who are not always comfortable with complicated software packages) and by providing a flexible open architecture that makes it easy to add additional functionality to the site. So we helped them design a site structure that communicates who they are and what they wish to accomplish. And while we were at it, we designed a new logo for them and integrated it into the site's overall design. In addition to Joomla’s standard content management capabilities, we also installed a dynamic event calendar with which CMDI volunteers can plan for important dates, a photo gallery with which to share photos of their trips to Tanzania, and an electronic newsletter component. And like all SpringHill sites, we concentrated on search engine optimization by including search-engine-friendly URLs, a complete system of page titles and meta tags, and dynamic site maps to ensure excellent rankings with the search engines. Future plans might include an online store to sell crafts and other products from Tanzanian artisans. So far, it looks like the crew at CMDI is getting the hang of administering their own website, as they add content and photos regularly. Check out the latest here.
